Tickets are now on sale for the 2010 Ko Olina Taste at Kapolei, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. Tickets are $75 in advance or $90 at the gate. Hugh Jones, president of the Hawaii State Bar Association and deputy Attorney General, will be the featured speaker at the club's 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting, Thursday, Sept. 2. His duties in the attorney general's office include making sure charitable organizations are complying with state laws. He will discuss steps being taken to provide closer scrutiny of non-profits and other tax-exempt organizations that raise money for charity. To view the club's calendar, click here.
The club has collected a wide array of school supplies for vulnerable elementary students from West Oahu. More than 20 elementary schools benefited from the annual community-service project, which is part of a broader effort to help needy students succeed in school. For photos, click here.
The club has selected a senior staff member of a parking management company as its new president. Marietta Bustamante, senior manager at Standard Parking Corporation in Honolulu, will lead the 43-member club through June 30, 2011. She succeeds Dan Fullenwider, a retired safety administrator for the Gas Company, whose one-year term expired June 30, 2010.

The club was named Hawaii's best midsize Rotary club for the 2009-2010 year, which ended June 30. The "Club of the Year" recognition was one of seven first-place awards presented to the Rotary Club of Kapolei during a July 11 gathering at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu for all 48 Rotary clubs in Hawaii. It is the second time in the club's 17-year history that Kapolei has been recognized as the "Club of the Year." In addition, the club won first-place awards for its website; newsletter; community service; international service; membership development; and participation in Rotary Foundation projects aimed at humanitarian missions abroad. On top of all that, the club won first runner-up awards for vocational service and youth service.
